A bit of symbolism: in Japanese Buddhism the "Ken" saber or straight double-edged sword is the symbol of awakening. Used in the "Goma" fire ritual to destroy the passions and is carried by the Buddhist deity " Fudo-Myoo" to overcome the ignorance of human beings
Oxalis plant "Katabami" consumable with anti-inflammatory property is used in Japan to repel demons.
